We were delighted to cater for patrons of the Bury Court Opera again this year at their annual gala evenings on Saturday 22nd February and 1st March. This year, the company performed The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell, a “semi-opera” or masque written in 1692 that is heralded as the greatest work of Purcell’s short life.
The audience were treated to an exquisite performance beneath the tutelage of director Julia Burbach, whilst conductor Simon Over and the Southbank Sinfonia truly brought the music to life.
For the gala dinner evenings this year, the opera organisers opted for a menu consisting of:
~ Starter ~
Twice baked Comte & Cheddar souffle with caramelised red onion, parmesan and truffle cream
Aged fillet and slow cooked West Country beef, parsnip puree, roasted root vegetables and glazed carrots with cripsy potato and thyme galette
~ Dessert ~
Pink rhubarb and stem ginger compote with lemon posset and a pistachio crumble topping
These performances are never anything less than brilliant thanks to the magical setting of The Barn and its wonderful acoustics and if you’ve only ever known Bury Court as a wedding venue it’s well worth a visit to see how amazing the transformation of the space is!
Whilst it may be all over for another year, but make sure you check out the Bury Court Opera website for news of their future productions.
