Seeing as the season is now in full swing, I thought I would share some inspiration and ideas on how to decorate your marquee. There are so many things to think about and this is where I come in. I am going to give you a few ideas to wow your guests from moment they step foot in that marquee.
6 ways for decorating your marquee wedding
- Table centres and place settings
Whether you have round tables or long tables, the centre pieces and place settings are the biggest feature inside your marquee. Having a mixture of high and low arrangements on your table will take away from the fact that marquees have very high ceilings! You could use candelabras or trees as your high arrangements and then hurricane vases with pillar candles surrounded by a floral wreath for the low. Not only do you have to think about the flowers, but also the glassware and linen colours. You need to be careful with not going too colourful that it takes the impact away from the flowers, but then adding in a pretty coloured water glass or gold rimmed wine glasses just adds that extra finesse. The options are endless but here are a few ideas for you to think about.
- Filling that ceiling
The current trend is to bring the ceilings down to table eye level in the form of a trellis. These are then decorated in greenery and flowers. You could hang glass baubles from them or even some funky Edison lighting which then makes the tables the main feature. You then don’t need to go so full on with the décor on the tables and keep it simple maybe mirroring what is hanging above. Here are some examples of how this is done.
If you wanted to spend less money on the floral side and look at other ways in order to fill that big space, you could ask your marquee company about hanging lanterns from the ceiling of the marquee. If you add in battery operated LED lights then as the night goes on, the lights come into their own creating this soft warm feeling throughout the marquee. You could also use strings of fairy lights, or swags of different coloured fabric or go all out and have a full-on star cloth roof!
- Chill out areas
Having a chill out area or soft seating is extremely important. It’s a great idea to have soft low seating that can be used either during reception or in the evening if people want to have a quiet conversation away from the dance floor with a cup of coffee or a stiff whisky! You can create this area in all sorts of forms. If you are having a rustic wedding, then straw bales with rugs over them will do just fine! Some people go to the extent of making large sofas out of bales but having them near a fire pit or around a table with candles will give it that romantic cosy feel. You could also use rattan furniture or just simply some of your own home furniture. Have a look at some of the images below to get some ideas.
- Bar area
The bar is one of the most important parts of your wedding, I think this goes without saying! By having a bar, you are not only creating that place to get drinks, but you are also creating a feature out of it. Whether you have a rustic bar or a mirrored bar or just tables with cloths on them, you need to think about the décor on it, around it and above it. You could have a central bar with a tree in the middle of it, you could have a bar to the side of the marquee incorporating the chill out furniture or you could just simply have some high tables, clothed but decorated with flowers and candles. Once again, the options are endless and here are a few ideas for you.
- Food display
When it comes to food displaying, most of this is down to the caterer but it helps if you give them an idea of what you are looking for. Here at Jacaranda we love creating exciting and detailed food stalls whether it be for your cheese table or mini pudding buffet or the canape trays, we have a huge selection of props that we use but flowers, herbs and wooden boxes are a must for a cheese table. Have a look at a few we have done in the past to get some inspiration.
- Seating plans
Seating plans are the new up and coming trend. People are doing extraordinary things with them and I have seen a few that I love! The seating plan used to just be a plain bit of paper with people’s names on them sat on an easel. But now, we have wreaths with hanging names, we have olive trees with escort cards on them, even ladders with plant pots. Seating plans can also be used to help make more out of your entrance to the marquee. Here are just a few that I have seen this year.
