I am pleased to say that since writing my last couple of posts things have calmed down considerably and hopefully I no longer sound like I’m on the verge of having a wedding melt down! I’m managing to let things go a little and I am definitely becoming more chilled.
This may be in no small part to the progress we have made with our plans recently and my ability to channel my worries into my DIY craft projects.
The biggest development we’ve made at the moment is that we’ve chosen and booked a large 33ft yurt for our music tent, which will maintain the theme of a festival style wedding and simply because we LOVE yurts (best holidays ever!). This will be where we will be dancing the night away and a smaller 16ft yurt to be hidden in the depths of the woodland will provide a place for those who want to chill a little, drink chai tea and play some music (we have a lot of musician friends bringing their instruments).
We have sourced the yurts from Devon-based company Yurts For Life. Although it sounds like quite a distance to travel, the yurts are incredibly well-made and are versatile for all wedding weather conditions, come rain or shine (but hopefully shine!).
I touched on the DIY freakiness in my last blog, so thought I’d share what I’ve been working on in the last few weeks. Again, to keep within the theme we want to have lots of soft seating including cushions, blankets and pouffes around the food tents & chill out tent for guests to relax.
As a result, I have been spending my evenings and weekends hand-stitching together some pouffes. These are really budget-friendly seating options as they are made out of fabrics found in junk shops and stuffed with worn out clothes and damaged linen tablecloths from work (thank you again Jacaranda!). 3 done, only 12 more to go…
I also have this vision of our canapés being served on ‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired trays. So with this in mind, and the discovery of Fimo moulding clay that can be found in most craft shops, I have started making clusters of small red mushrooms. Combined with faux turf lining the trays, we will hopefully create an original and fun way of displaying & serving our canapés, making them far more intriguing than your usual vol-au-vonts.
It makes me laugh now, but at the time of writing the last blog I was in the early stages of planning and everything felt impossible. I was thinking, “How on earth are we going to make all our dreams come true considering the little time we have and our budget limitations?!”
To all my fellow brides out there who are planning their own weddings and feeling similarly like it’s all getting too much whilst desperately wondering whether you’re trying to achieve the impossible: please stick with it. It will work out, I promise. You may have to learn, just like I have, that you’re going to have to compromise on some things, but it will all come together. In a couple of months, if not weeks, you too will be laughing at how much you were sweating the details.
