Our event manager Tori is taking over the blog today to let you know how a fresh furniture configuration in an established wedding venue can make all the difference to how your wedding guests experience your day.
The wedding day of Fran and Duncan was one like no other at Bury Court Barn on the 25th May this year. We rarely have long banqueting tables at the barn and I feel that they looked truly beautiful! Once filled with smiling faces and laughter the room really came to life. It was a real pleasure getting to work with such lovely people on their special day.
The long tables really worked well with the space. Barns are generally great wedding venues as they offer a really versatile, open space for your wedding breakfast, but it almost seems to make more sense to use long, thin tables in the naturally rectangular space, than dot circular tables around. What is it they say about trying to put round pegs in square holes?!

The banqueting nature of the tables also complimented the theme by combining flowers and candelabras to create centrepieces of varying heights along the length of each table, which made for an unequivocally stylish space.
Some may feel that long tables aren’t quite as sociable for their guests as round tables; however this wedding really proved that point to be wrong as all guests were able to speak with many others around them, without having to raise their voices as some may assume. The tables were just wide enough to ensure one side wasn’t completely separated from the other, whilst still allowing enough room for flowers, glasses and candles to be placed along the centre without being squashed.
We love how long tables provoke an homage to school days and the excitement that comes with that kind of dining. With beautiful styling and careful logistics, there’s definitely a case to be made for giving your wedding guests a different kind of dining experience than traditional round table banter.
We were lucky enough to have the fabulous Guy Collier photographing the day, and as always he was a joy to work with. The beautiful flowers were supplied by Jill at Apothecary Flowers.
