The summer of 2013 was a wonderful one filled with sunshine, long evenings and, in our case, lots of weddings! Each and every one of them has been different in their own way and I have to say it has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of them.
As my first summer as the event manager for Bury Court draws to a close and the mornings are starting to get colder and darker – we seem to be dimming the lights in the barn a whole lot earlier in the evenings than before – I thought it might be nice to have a little recap of the summer and what we have seen that has left me so excited for next summer. (I’m sure it will come around again VERY quickly!)
The trends that Bury Court couples have brought to the barn have been lovely and I feel that Suzanne, Tessa and I must be almost experts at lacing bunting through the banisters and from the beams whilst Bruce hangs pom poms from the high ceilings on a Saturday morning (his favourite job we’re sure!). All jokes aside though, the bunting we’ve seen has been beautiful and really added that finishing touch to all of the English country themed weddings this summer.
There have also been the delicious sweetie tables which were first made popular over in the States as candy buffets before making their way across the Atlantic to the best of British weddings here. We really hope this trend will carry on next year, as they’re a great idea and guests love them during the evening.
Another thing that we’ve seen and loved is the travelling theme, which has included table plans made from world maps and tables named after the countries that our brides & grooms have visited. We even had a spectacular wedding cake that was designed to look like two suitcase trunks with so much detail it was simply stunning.
Photo booths have been very popular over the summer months and our brides have been very creative and made the signs & props themselves, which makes them that little bit more personal. We have even had one of the Coco taxi photo booths pulling up outside the barn; despite the windy evening the guests braved the short trip outside to get a few fun snaps.
We have had some great florists work with us over the summer, which always makes working at Bury Court Barn even more special. Some of the stars of the summer include Suzanna at Tiger Rose, Sue at The Lavender Hill Company & Kate Avery to name just a few.
And of course, where would we be without some great photographers to capture the glory of our summer weddings at Bury Court Barn? Guy Collier (whose work you can see in this post) has been fantastic to work with every time our paths have crossed and we’ve enjoyed some of Damian Bailey’s talent over the summer months, too.
There have of course been whole legions of fantastic suppliers that we’ve collaborated with, many of whom you can find here.
Summer 2013 has been really kind to us and I can’t wait to see what next year holds for us, but in the meantime it’s time to embrace the festive season and enjoy all of the beautiful weddings and events that the cosiness of winter brings!
