Back in June, we sent a team down to Brighton overseen by event manager Nigel to organise a special birthday party at a private residence overlooking the beautiful coastline. This may have been a celebration of the big five-oh, but it didn’t stop the birthday boy receiving an Arctic Roll cake with candles in it!
This lunchtime gathering was a complete surprise for the man of the hour and included drinks and canapés in the garden overlooking the seaside before and after lunch. Alongside a few gin and tonics, the canapés we provided included:
Clear gazpacho shots
Thai duck and mango salad on teardrop spoon
Smoked salmon on buck wheat blini, with sour cream
Coconut and coriander chicken skewers with green Thai curry
Egg Florentine
It was a gloriously sunny day that allowed guests to really make the most of their picturesque surroundings. Seaside games were erected in the garden for extra entertainment and the surprises got even better when a special birthday message floated through the air behind a specially commissioned plane!
The area was brightened up with colourful cloths and bunting, both in the garden and in the dining area. Pops of bright colour were provided with beautiful blooms placed inside miniature milk bottles, whilst sticks of rock waited in each place as party favours for the guests.
Guests were later invited up into the house for lunch, which we served on long banqueting tables. The menu for lunch consisted of:

Barbecued beef rump & banana leaf wrapped bass served on separate wooden boards along the tables with salsas and sauces
Bowls of salads and potatoes
Beetroot, pickled red onion & carrot slaw with fresh horseradish & grain mustard dressing, toasted pumpkin colonels & wild rocket
Fine bean mange tout, orange zest, fresh orange, pomegranate, hazelnut & hazelnut oil, fresh asparagus & parmesan

Arctic roll with fresh berries and hot chocolate sauce
It was a truly vibrant day, full of colour and laughter both in terms of the people and the decor! It was lovely to create a great atmosphere and delicious food within the client’s own home, too. We loved being able to contribute to this wonderfully memorable surprise party and can only hope we get the call when it’s time to plan the big six-oh as well!
