“The diary of a wedding planner”

minty

Since the beginning of this year’s wedding season, I have been in the fast lane for months and it is only now I have done my last marquee wedding of the year, that I can stop and reflect a little. There have been emotional times and times of uncontrollable laughter and it is these I would like to share.

Throughout this year of 2016, I have had the absolute pleasure of working with the most wonderful couples and their families. Most of these I got to know incredibly well and it is that I am thankful for.

During the year, I have made many friends and relationships with the people I worked with. Some of which will last a life time. But it does not go without saying that it is not just me behind the operation. There are many people involved behind the scenes that are so important to make things happen, if they weren’t there, my job would be a lot harder. I am extremely lucky to say that the people I work with, are not only my colleagues but also my friends. I’m one of those annoying individuals who can happily say, “I love my job!”

From small to medium to huge weddings and parties, I have been incredibly lucky to have been involved in them all. We have had torrential rain, howling winds and hot and sticky sun. We’ve spent days in suits and wellies, in heat that is unbearable, we have had chefs van get stuck in muddy fields, rain pouring in through the kitchen, puddles in the marquee floor, thunder and lightning throughout the speeches, but all of them were worth it. Reminiscing back throughout the year, I’ve had some interesting experiences! I’ve held up a bride’s dress whilst in the downstairs loo, I’ve scattered rose petals at 2am with the mother of the bride on her daughter’s bed, I’ve watched 60yr olds dance to a silent disco until 5am with their children’s friends, I’ve watched a groom do karaoke to the last song on his wedding night with sweat dripping off him, I’ve spent weekends with bilingual families (that’s tough!) and I even had Russell Brand as a guest! There have been sleepless nights and tears shed but I wouldn’t change a single thing.

I wrapped up my marquee season helping make a dear friend’s wedding a very special day. Mimi and Fred got married on 29th October 2016, this was my last marquee wedding of the year and MY GOD was it a good one!!! From the beginning of the planning to the last good bye, every minute was so enjoyable. Knowing a lot of the guests personally put on that extra bit of pressure but they trusted me and we nailed it. I know I will remember this wedding for a long time. I am in the process of writing about Mimi and Fred’s wedding for our ‘Real Wedding Blog’ so watch this space!

Planning a wedding can be so stressful but it really doesn’t have to be. It should be fun and you should look back on it knowing that the build-up was just as good as the day itself.

I have a lot of couples who have taken that attitude to their weddings for next year, and that is why I cannot wait until the first one of 2017.
