On Friday 5th October, we happily put all of our know-how into creating a collection of canapés for an event called ‘An Evening for Evie’ at Haslemere Museum. Organised by the charity Action For A-T, we were honoured to play a small part in helping to raise money for a very special little girl called Evie, who has been diagnosed with the rare, neurodegenerative and progressive condition called Ataxia-Telangiectasia which starts in early childhood and causes severe disability and premature death.
The almost 200 attendees actually managed to surpass the aim of raising £5,000, by joining in an auction, a raffle and a silent bid on a photographic exhibition in order to raise a whopping £14,000. This phenomenal sum will be used by Action For A-T to fund a new research programme in the UK, alongside children’s charity Sparks.
Guests at ‘An Evening for Evie’ were able to bid on some fantastic prizes, including afternoon tea followed by a West End show, a signed shirt from sports superstar Jonny Wilkinson or a week in Tuscany, amongst other lots. Luckily, the good people of Haslemere were in a generous mood and exceeded the organisers’ expectations with their bids!
As with all the charity events that Jacaranda undertake, we like to feel we can contribute to raising the profile of the cause as well as providing a bit of food, so please do visit the Action For A-T website to find out how you can help. You can also get involved on Facebook or Twitter and whether you want to indulge in a full on challenge or simply buy them a pint, the guys at Action for A-T will really appreciate your support.
