The performance of staging an opera

Remember last month when we told you we were in the midst of hosting tastings for the Bury Court Opera?

Well, inexplicably, time has slipped away and the hour has rapidly approached in which those initial ideas come to fruition. Jacaranda will be on hand this evening and next Saturday night for the two formal gala evening performances, including all the incredible dishes we have created.

But you may be thinking to yourself, how does one host both a lavish dinner and a stunning opera in one space? Well, it’s very simple. All you need is a couple of dozen staff, a watertight strategy and a clear head.

As guests arrive, we will be greeting them with drinks and a few nibbles before they head into the barn to watch Rossini’s La Cenerentola. A tiered auditorium and stage have been built within the barn to afford the best view in the house for every single spectator.

This means that as the audience exit at the end of the performance and head into a marquee for the subsequent reception, the Jacaranda team will be diving into the barn with military-like precision to transform the space from a theatre into a dining room. This includes breaking down elements of the set, reassigning seats and setting up several tables which then need to be subsequently laid and dressed before styling the room into an inviting, warm, sociable atmosphere.

As if that’s not enough, we’ll complete the transformation in just 15 minutes, before our gala diners are invited back into the barn to take their seats and enjoy the sumptuous menu we’ve created for them. Who needs Anneka Rice when you’ve got Jacaranda around?!

Assuming that we manage to pull off the greatest show on earth, we’ll report back next week to let you know how the whole spectacle went. If you’d like to know more, please visit the Bury Court Opera website now.

Performances are tonight, Sunday 11th, Wednesday 14th & Saturday 17th March.
